Cease and Desist

2007
07.23

I noticed today that a certain Radu Dragulescu of Timisoara, Romania, had copied some of my blog entries to his site, Yamzy Network.

Imitation being the sincerest form of flattery, I fired off a cease and desist e-mail and registered postal letter to him requiring him under the laws of the European Union and/or Romania to, well, cease and desist his nefarious activities of copying my writings and research results to his site.

For example:

I gave that gentleman until 7 August 2007 to sort this thing out, and, if I have not received any “affirmative response” indicating he is fully complying with my requirements, “I shall take further action”.

O Tempora, O Mores!

UPDATE 2008-01-09: The Yamzy Network site seems to be out of service.

Jerriek Chen Weixiong

Jerriek Chen Weixiong, 17.

The 17-year-old Jerriek Chen Weixiong gets 9 years in prison and 24 strokes of the cane by the Subordinate Courts [relevant documents] for a student-mugging spree and a violent assault while on bail in 2002.

The case went on to the High Court [relevant documents].

After appeal, the sentence was revised. According to the Honorable Chief Justice Yong Pung How: “Indeed, the sentence imposed by the district judge was, in my view, manifestly inadequate.”

To rectify this mafinest inadequacy, His Honour saw it fit to sentence the 17-year-old to “14 years imprisonment and 24 strokes of the cane pursuant to s[ection] 230 of the Criminal Procedure Code. Appeal dismissed.”

More thought-provoking cases from the Singapore Subordinate Courts and the High Court can be found at the Crime and Punishment — Criminal Justice Singapore Style website.

UPDATE 2007-09-27: The original website is no more but you can access the content via Web Archive.
